Protecting wooden packaging
Long considered basic, wooden packaging has a number of advantages for professionals: quality, robustness, renewable, locally available, etc. This type of packaging is also popular with consumers for its natural, authentic feel. However, pallets, crates and light or industrial wooden packaging are often affected by blue stains and mould growth. To remedy this, Groupe Berkem has developed AXIL PAL, a specific solution designed to protect wooden packaging.
AXIL PAL : Healthy wooden packaging for protected goods
Manufacturers and users of wooden packaging are sometimes faced with the problem of blue stain and mould. In addition to the aesthetic damage, this damage can also be economic, with the loss of goods rendered unfit for consumption.
These two distinct wood disorders need to be contained to guarantee healthy goods.
- Blue stain: A simple aesthetic problem, blue stain is characterised by the development of fungi with dark filaments that cause stains to appear. The colouration can vary from grey-blue to black, but once it sets in it is irreversible. Blue stain generally develops on coniferous species, but sometimes on deciduous species.
- Mould growth : Mould is caused by the presence of spores on the surface of the wood, which proliferate when the surface humidity is excessive. Insufficient ventilation or imperfect drying conditions can cause mould to develop on wooden packaging. This disorder is aesthetic but above all sanitary. Moulds present a risk of allergy symptoms.
Protect your wooden packaging with AXIL PAL
To prevent damage to your pallets and wooden packaging and the extra costs involved, the Berkem Groupe has developed AXIL PAL, a preventive protection solution for your pallets and wooden packaging. It is applied to fresh sawn timber, ideally within 48 to 72 hours of felling. Treated in this way, the wood becomes stronger, more attractive and less susceptible to biological attack.
AXIL PAL : Processing tailored to the agri-food market
Groupe Berkem has submitted test reports assessed by the relevant European authorities to certify that the AXIL PAL solution can be used to treat wood intended to come into contact with foodstuffs. The experts concluded that all the quality, safety and efficacy criteria were perfectly compliant and without risk to consumers.
No MRLs (Maximum Residue Limits) are expected to be exceeded with this use. No unacceptable risks from dietary exposure have been identified.
AXIL PAL is therefore the preservation solution for packaging wood that is perfectly suited to the agri-food markets.
